Scar The Ant
Hey great news! I’ve been hired to direct my first music video! Here’s a (really) quick rough animatic I threw together.
The final animation will be done partially stop motion, partially hand-drawn and composited onto water colored backgrounds (in other words it will look way better than this animatic…)
Anyway, I’d love any feedback anyone might have, especially with regards to the clarity of the storytelling. It would be great if you could point out any specific points where it gets confusing.
The guy who hired me is named Blake Pullen and he is the lead man for a group he calls “Sonic Impulse.” If you like the song in the above video, you should definitely check out their website, and consider buying their album:

1) GAH!!! BING I am so happy for you!!! Yay! EPIC WIN!
Hero looks like Will Hyler!
2) I fuck*ng love this.
3) 00:38 - Maybe put in some reaction shots of the deer as they try to flee the world eater robot? More carnage!!!
4) 43 seconds in does not make sense - it competes later when the earth of the bagpiper is devoured. I guess what I mean to say is that you should establish the earth(s) as different earths. Err… I mean, maybe….. I just watched it again and I guess you did establish. I just don’t like the transition at 00:43… gahh.
5) This thing just devours worlds and that is it’s job… yes.
6) I greatly enjoyed the resolution!
7) I also suck at making boards and I don’t mean to give advice ’cause I want to be “useful” I enjoyed it.
9) Watch the fifth element for inspiration.
10) Yay!

Number 8 automated into face with sunglasses = awesome.

Hahaha! I typically hate that the smilies automate on my site, and I’d disable it if I knew how, but for once at least, I’m glad I didn’t.
It’s also hilarious because everyone knows that number8 + ) = smiley guy with googly eyes.
Anyway thank you so much for your feedback. I agree with everything you said except the part about you sucking at making boards. Your boards are really beautiful and/or have Narwhals in them. Good lord.
Oh, also don’t worry about that transition at :43, what I have in mind looks nothing like the shitty blurry mess that I slopped together because I’d rather be building stuff and I was running out of time.
B!

Hey! But you’re doing this stop motion? So transitions are easily made more awesome anyway!

Yeah yeah transitions!! My plan is to have the explosion of the first green planet you see, morph into a opening fern/moss cluster of a similar shape sprouting on the Highlander’s planet…. I think it’ll look neatocool! Anyway, thanks for letting me know what’s up. YEss!!

Nice, so far so good. I like it despite it being an animatic. The story I got from it is that robotic indian aliens are invading a mini space scotland with a highlander playing the bagpipe.
I could be wrong, but that is awesome. Maybe you should make the robotic ship more indian. give it a more taj mahal features and maybe some elephants. the scottish guy should do a highland charge and maybe transform his bagpipe into a giant claymore or something and use it to fight robotic indian warriors.
This is just in my mind rambling since I haven’t eaten dinner yet but good job nevertheless.

I think it’s great so far! I love the story and the visuals. Don’t worry if you think your board is sloppy. My mentor always told me, “It doesn’t matter so much how clean your pre-prod is, but more so that it’s clear.” I think you have a real clear vision and it comes across.
The only place that is fuzzy is right at the beginning when the initial planet is attacked. It is unclear whether it is the planet of the highlander or another planet…I think you may have already addressed this. But that’s it.
I think you tell great stories and have great ideas. My favorite part is at 2:38 where the industrialized planet rotates as the plant life takes it over. So epic! Keep up the great work! Can’t wait to see the final product!

That looks amazing. I can’t wait to see it finished. Also, lmao at lordguan88. This is awesome as it is currently, it doesn’t need additional elements.
